preface

You don’t need another book about UX theory. You need a mentor in your pocket.

I wrote this book because I remember what it feels like to sit in a meeting, completely lost, nodding along while having no idea what anyone is talking about. I remember the anxiety of being thrown into a project mid-stream with no idea what phase we’re in or what I’m supposed to deliver next. I remember spending hours after work trying to piece together frameworks, methodologies, and activities because no one explained how it all connects.

I started my career as a junior full-stack developer with a computer science degree. I wore many hats, worked across industries, and eventually transitioned into senior design leadership roles. Along the way, I learned the end-to-end process, from concept to fully developed product.

And let me tell you: it was not easy.

The information wasn’t widely available when I was coming up. The tools we use today didn’t exist. The frameworks weren’t clearly explained. I had to reverse-engineer everything by myself: studying every popular design model, documenting every method, mapping out every activity, and figuring out how they all connected.

This is the book I wish I had when I started. A clear, practical guide written by someone who’s been in the trenches. A framework you can use immediately. The mentor I never had, one you can reference whenever you need it.

I wrote it for you if you’re just starting out. I also wrote it for you if you’ve been doing this for years and need a reminder of the principles under the work. And I wrote it to last. Things change faster than ever, but human beings are still fairly the same, and this is a book about understanding them.

My hope is that it helps you skip the struggle I went through and get straight to doing great work.
